BIKEPACKING WALES SUNDOWNERS GONE HORRIBLY WRONG (CRASH)
Переглядів 19 тис.Місяць тому
After some pretty tough bikepacking adventures over the last few weeks, I thought I'd take on something a little easier and a little chilled, the Solstice sundowners route created by all mountain adventures isn't really a bikepacking route as such but works well for a little overnighter. My plans for a relaxing, chilled out bikepacking adventure would soon change as it all went downhill in the ...

top tip for you mate, from an old prepper, keep a spare folding alloy tent post inside your seat post, gaffer tape, and old inner tube. you can repair 80% of stuff with that :) chin up

Thanks for the tip. We did this route as a family trip over three days on the Bank Holiday. My 12 yo managed out very well. That loop on the north end was very hard to follow the route with lots of mud, and the last 5ish kms when it goes west before going back east to finish in Brockenhurst, I'd say it's not worthy. Lots of traffic. As for the rest, it's a very nice route. Thanks!

Wow. Dude I just done this in 5 days. Was amazing- but the last stretch (loads of big rubble) towards Swansea was gnarly and unrideable. I rode it on a gravel bike with 50mm's. Overall very enjoyable and got to see the breadth of Wales in one go!

I was walking with my rottweiler along a disused railway track in Caerphilly, when I fell backwards down the embankment and landed on my shoulders , feet sticking up towards the air, in a bramble bush. I gave a loud karate scream, and despite being covered in thorns, twisted my body and dragged myself through the bush. I was covered in blood, but had no choice other than scream and get myself out. Lottie the rottie was very relieved.

I’ve seen better tarp and bike set ups with the bike only partly inside the shelter but forming a support for a plough point or similar shelter; and another with the bike at one end but outside, a ridge line to a pole and an A frame design in between. But a tarp pyramids tent is easier. It just doesn’t incorporate the bike.

Sometimes you just look at everything that has gone wrong and think, heart not in it. Which can be a really gruelling mental process. Once that decision is made, you stick to it and commit to the decision. I have had a few. Good you post these videos, they are as valuable as the success stories, thanks for posting.

Hot take ... long trousers/tights are far superior to shorts in the uk unless temps are extremely high. Just did a trip through yorkshire where midges bit the s*##" out of my legs in one evening while wearing shorts. Probably had 30 swollen bites on each leg. Less chance of godawful ticks while covering up as well.

Just caught this. Am looking at replacing my drop bars for the H. I have been using a Restrap front bag/roll but the cables on the drops are tucked away. It looks like the cables need to be longer and in front of any bag for the Jones?. How is it working on your bike.

From Oz … very well said. I’ve watched and enjoyed much of your work but must have missed what I presume was a crash that has left you injured and recovering. Not good. I’m coming up to 79 and am so so careful not to injure myself while still taking rides, lines and yes, some risks within my capability so that I still satisfy my need for ‘good’ rides. Get well soon.

I once wrote that one of the great things about Josh's videos was the absence of unsolicited advice. This video is different because it answers many of the questions viewers have asked in the comments. Most of the tips are free and easy to act on with none of the buy, buy, buy of other channels, making it so much easier to get out and enjoy "them moments".

Some great thoughts shared, thanks. Got to say I bought an oversized rain jacket from Decathlon, and also their quick drying cycling trousers which have been great to use over my bib-shorts, keeping the legs warm even though the trousers had taken the worse of the wet surfaces through the winter and spring. Keep smiling Josh

A sticking point for me is knowledge that I can stop… Official campsites can be sparse (there are loads of campsites on the north downs way, but mostly connected to scouts, and so not for me),,,, I have no objection to a wild camp, but have never done it, and in the busiest part of England, my major worry is discovery. I’d really appreciate an in depth look at selecting a discrete place to stop!
